Team Recruitment launch World Cup Competition for clients…..

May 17th, 2010 Helen.Stacey Comments off

Team Recruitment have recently launched their World Cup Competition within their Poole & Chichester offices.   Selected clients have been asked to draw an envelope at random from one of the consultants. Within those envelopes is a Country that has a team in the World Cup in South Africa in June 2010.  None of the staff at Team Recruitment, who have been hand delivering the envelopes know which teams are within which envelopes.

The relevant country that wins the World Cup will then relate to a client.  The prizes are a bottle of  champagne and a meal for 2 to the value of £100 at Hotel Du Vin, Poole or Chassons, Chichester.

Helen Stacey, Head of Operations comments “we wanted to make the World Cup a little more fun and by offering specific clients and potential new clients the opportunity of winning what is effectively a night out on us if their team wins, is a great way of including our clients within the competition and also saying thank you for their continued support and business”

Results will be published after the final on 11th July 2010!

Jo West, Industrial Manager at Poole takes part in “Business come Dancing”

May 13th, 2010 Helen.Stacey No comments
The event was held to raise funds for the Wessex Cancer Trust, which was established in 1981 to provide relief for those suffering from cancer and their carers, to promote research into the disease and to advance education into its causes, prevention and treatment.

Jo joined 7 other local Business personalities to take part even though she had no previous dancing experience.  The event was held at The Hotel Piccadilly in Bournemouth, attended by over 120 local business people who enjoyed a champagne reception, 3 course dinner and entertainment by the professional dancers as well as the local business people.  The event was organised at relatively short notice which meant Jo had to undertake several training sessions in her own time and raise money for the charity.

To date over £6,000 has been raised for WCT by this event and the money is still being collected.

Helen Stacey – Head of Operations commented “I think Jo is absolutely brilliant for agreeing to take part in this event.  There is no way I would put myself through the humiliation of embarrassing myself by dancing with a professional ballroom dancer in front of 120 people – most of whom I would know!  She did an amazing job on the night cheered on by 10 of her colleagues as well as her boyfriend and parents.  We were a little concerned on the Friday before hand when Jo twisted her ankle but like a true pro she had a training session on the Saturday morning and managed to even dance in her heels on the night!!”

As an Employer are you prepared for the looming World Cup and staff absences……

May 11th, 2010 Helen.Stacey No comments

Employers are ill-prepared for the looming World Cup, with many admitting they have no plans in place to manage staff absence.

Nine in 10 firms have not developed a policy to manage employees who fail to show up for work as football fever hits the nation, according to a poll of 1,000 employers.

The survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) found that just 5% of organisations have drawn up a policy, while a further 5% are in the process of developing one.

Now the CIPD has drawn up a guide for employers suggesting different approaches that can help employees enjoy the matches that are important to them, without adversely affecting the needs of the business.

The World Cup and Absence Management guidance suggests flexible working hours, shift swaps, unpaid leave, and providing a special screen to show matches on work premises.

It also recommends that employers are made aware of disciplinary consequences for taking unauthorised time off work without good reason, or for not performing satisfactorily or misbehaving at work.

The CIPD suggests employers should encourage workers to use annual leave, particularly to discourage general absenteeism and poor performance caused by over-indulgence in alcohol.

CIPD adviser John McGurk described the survey findings as “alarming”.

He said: “Research suggests that when employers demonstrate they care about their staff and their interests outside of work, employees are more likely to go the extra mile for the organisation. Whatever individual organisations decide is right for their employees, guidance should be clear and communicated well.”

In March Personnel Today reported how supermarket chain Asda will loosen its rules on flexible working during the World Cup in June and July to reduce the number of ’sickies’ being recorded, and to enable employees to take time off work to watch key matches.

Do you have policies in place?  If so let us know so we can let other clients know?

Does it cost me anything to register with a recruitment agency?

April 30th, 2010 Helen.Stacey No comments

This is the question we answer the most from candidates looking for work .  Well the answer is quite simply NO – its actually illegal for an employment agency (other than a modelling agency) to charge people to register onto its books which then enables the agency to search for work.

We actually make our money from our clients – i.e we charge them a fee for taking on a temporary worker or for us finding them someone on a permanent basis.  So if an agency says it costs you money then walk away as they obviously aren’t a professional outfit.

Any reputable recruitment agency will be registered with the REC – Recruitment and Employment Confederation – www.rec.co.uk  – which is our governing body.  Team Recruitment Solutions are members of REC, as well as being approved by the GLA (Gangmasters Licensing Authority) to enable us to supply workers into the food processing and packaging industries as well as the horticultural and shellfish gathering industries.  Both the GLA and the REC undertake regular audits to ensure that agencies are continually adhering to their strict guidelines.

When you register for temporary work you can stipulate the hours you want to do and the minimum rate that you will work for – the agency in question should be able to guide you in the local marketplace and give you advice on market rates etc.  You don’t have to accept any job that an agency offers you, however if you continually turn down work then the agency may decide that you aren’t really serious about finding work and then stop offering you work.

All agencies should accrue holiday pay for you – each agency does this slightly differently so you should check with the particular recruitment agency in question.  All holiday has to be taken within your holiday year and cannot be carried over.  Team Recruitment Solutions will deduct PAYE and NI from your pay (as will any other reputable agency).  The majority of temporary workers are paid weekly, one week in arrears.  You should ALWAYS receive a pay slip from your agency detailing the hours you have worked,  your hourly rate and the amount of tax and National Insurance that has been deducted.

Remember, agencies have 2 clients – the paying customer or business that wants our help and you the candidate.  We cant operate without having both clients so as a candidate searching for work you are very important to us!

We can access £1000 rebates for clients recruiting graduates…..

April 27th, 2010 Helen.Stacey Comments off

Once again Team Recruitment Solutions based in Poole & Chichester are showing their innovative approach to business by teaming up with The Arts University College Bournemouth and the Enterprise Pavilion in Bournemouth.

Team are offering access to a £1000 rebate for clients who recruit staff utilising the Graduate internship scheme.  The scheme, locally managed by Arts University College at Bournemouth, has been set up by the Higher Education Council for England &Wales who have designated over £13 million to help university graduates kick-start their careers.  Team Recruitment is encouraging their clients to employ new talent and those who do will receive a £1000 rebate for doing so.

Helen Stacey, Head of Operations at Team Recruitment comments “By teaming up with the Arts University, Team Recruitment are yet again, able to demonstrate our initiative as well as being able to be proactive in offering our clients – both new and existing – a substantial rebate if they recruit a recent graduate.  For the purposes of this scheme a recent graduate is anyone who has been awarded a degree within the last 3 years.  This scheme is open to any business who can offer a graduate a role for a minimum of three months.  Although the position itself may be full-time and must be paid at least the equivalent of an annual salary of £14,000 pa , the internship is for the first three months: a kind of trial period.  If they take someone under this scheme we can secure the client a rebate of £1000 which is not an insubstantial amount of money.  It is a win-win situation for both our clients and our candidates as it keeps the cost of the recruitment down for the client and offers the candidate a way into companies who may have otherwise put recruitment on hold.”  She added “the degree can be in any subject but must have been gained within the last 3 years, we have already got a number of clients who are signed up under this scheme and in fact have used it ourselves when we recently recruited a new consultant for our Chichester office!”

Joe Barnes, Graduate Internship Programme Officer for Arts University College said “Helen and Team Recruitment are fantastic partners for this scheme.  They really understand the benefit of the scheme and they’re ideally located to help us to cover as wide a geographic area as possible.”  He added, “It also helps that they’re incredibly proactive when it comes to servicing their clients.”

The deadline for all applications under the scheme is September 2010. Anyone wishing to obtain more information on this can call Helen Stacey or one of her Team on 01202 445700 or 01243 816615 or visit www.gradintern.co.uk

National Minimum wage to increase from 1st October 2010

April 26th, 2010 Helen.Stacey No comments
April 2010: NMW increase from 1 October 2010

The National Minimum Wage is due to increase from 1 October 2010 as follows:

  • For workers aged 21 and over: the rate will increase to £5.93 from £5.80;
  • For workers aged 18-20: the rate will increase to £4.92 from £4.83;
  • For workers aged 16 and 17: the rate will increase to £3.64 from £3.57.

There will also be the introduction of a National Minimum Wage for apprentices of £2.50. This will be applicable to apprentices under the age of 19, or apprentices aged 19 and over who are in the first year of their apprenticeship.

However, Helen Stacey of Team Recruitment states “we believe that if 2 people are doing the same job alongside each other they should be paid the same rate irrespective of their age.  We will always try to make sure this happens and speak to our clients to be able to continually offer the higher rate of NMW (for those aged 21 and over) to the vast majority of our temporary staff, why should someone be penalised by being a couple of years younger?”

Anyone looking for work or knows anyone who is can contact the Team on 01202 4455700 (POOLE) or 01243 816615 (CHICHESTER)
