Our take on How to be a great candidate

Here are some inside top tips on how to be a great candidate, which will help you to build excellent relationships with hiring managers and recruitment consultants for years to come.

Update your CV:

  • Phone number

  • Location

  • Email address

  • Include dates of employment when you started and finished each job role

  • Easy to read, bullet point style, short and sharp

As you can imagine, agencies are inundated with candidate CVs daily. If your CV is not updated with your contact information, will we have time to keep trying to reach you?

Be honest:

  • If the job we are discussing is not for you, please be honest: thanks, but no thanks!

  • Tell us exactly what you are looking for: location, hours, pay, job role and contract

  • Be realistic with your salary expectation; what can you realistically live on? If you have no experience for this role, do you expect the higher end of the pay scale?

  • Keep us updated if you have other interviews/offers

  • Be upfront about where you have interviewed/worked before (even if you worked for 1 day)

Honesty really is the best policy to build a long-standing relationship with recruiters and hiring managers; you never know when you will need their help again.
