Taking A Short Break Won’t Hurt Your Career

Taking A Short Break Won’t Hurt Your Career

Thinking you have to apply for as many jobs as possible and registering with as many recruitment agencies can speed up the process, can have a detrimental effect.

Jaime Rana, TeamJobs Specialist Marketing Recruiter says, “Remember this is all about how you can build a relationship and rapport with someone else. Find a recruitment agency that has a fit for you in terms of sector specialism. The partnerships we can all build together can help everyone in the long run. By registering with too many companies, can start to become confusing. For instance, you might see repeated choices for potential roles, you don’t want to dilute what you can do for someone else.”

You might even want a short break from job searching altogether.

Taking some time out is not going to hurt your career. Carly Lake, TeamJobs Specialist Marketing Recruiter highlights, “It is stressful looking for a new role, but you need to take time out for yourself. The last thing you should do is get in your own way, it can be damaging and unhealthy.”

Whilst it may sound frightening, it is ok to take some time out. If you have a good relationship with a recruitment team, they are here for you. Even if you might not have heard for a short period, it doesn’t mean you are not on their radar.

It comes down to finding a balance between your next career move and feeling ok in yourself. Even if you are giving 100% to finding your next job, it is still important to shut down your computer, step away from the screen and participate in other parts of your life.

We all have to be kind to ourselves. This is something that Headspace, the meditation and mindfulness app, recognises. They have recently announced that they are offering anyone unemployed in the UK, a free year-long subscription. If this is something you’d like to take up, click here https://www.headspace.com/unemployed Headspace recognised the link between unemployment and anxiety and where meditation can make a difference.

When it comes to making that next professional step, it is natural for us all to want it ASAP. However, whilst having a sense of urgency can motivate, it can also become detrimental to your wellbeing.

If you are spending a significant amount of time applying and thinking that you have to keep persevering, by taking some time out, can make a difference. Remember that you are not alone when you find a bond with a recruitment team, there are people on your side. Taking a short break can help reaffirm parts of your identity.
